Professional rider training develops your skills. Motorcycle mindset coaching helps you use them with confidence.

Most motorcycle tours focus on the destination. Many training tours focus on developing riding skills.
DS Roadcraft Tours combines both, while also recognising something that is often overlooked: the rider's mindset.
Together, professional rider development and motorcycle mindset coaching create an enhanced touring experience that can benefit your riding long after the tour has ended.

By Claire Jones, Motorcycle Mindset Coach, and author of the Amazon best-selling book Remember You're a Rider

It's Easy To Assume A Motorcycle Tour Is Just A Holiday

When people think about motorcycle tours, they often picture stunning mountain passes, beautiful scenery, great food and a group of riders enjoying some of the best roads Europe has to offer.

And don't get me wrong, those things are a huge part of the experience.

The Black Forest is spectacular.

Normandy offers incredible history and fantastic riding.

The Ardennes and Vosges Mountains are packed with roads that make you want to turn around and ride them again, so I've been told.

But after speaking to riders who have been on tours, and reflecting on my own motorcycle journey, I've realised something.

The roads are rarely what people remember most.

What they remember is how the experience changed them.

The Real Challenge Often Starts Before The Engine Does

Many riders dream about touring abroad but never actually book.

Not because they don't want to go.

Because they're worried.

They worry they won't be good enough.

They worry they'll hold everyone up.

They worry they'll struggle on unfamiliar roads.

They worry about riding in another country.

They worry about mountain passes.

They worry about making mistakes.

They worry that everyone else will be more experienced.

As a motorcycle mindset coach, I see these concerns all the time.

They're often completely invisible to other people.

The rider may look perfectly capable from the outside while privately wondering whether they belong there at all.

Confidence Doesn't Always Arrive With Experience

One of the biggest myths in motorcycling is that confidence automatically comes with time.

Sometimes it does.

Sometimes it doesn't.

I've met riders who have held a licence for decades and still lack confidence in certain situations.

I've also met newer riders who have developed excellent confidence because they've had the right support and experiences.

Confidence isn't simply a result of miles ridden.

It's a result of how we interpret those miles.

That's why two riders with very similar levels of experience can feel completely different about their abilities.

Why Rider Training And Mindset Work So Well Together

Professional rider training develops essential skills.

Observation.

Planning.

Positioning.

Machine control.

Hazard perception.

Decision-making.

These skills help riders become safer, smoother and more capable.

But skills alone don't always guarantee confidence.

Many riders already know what they should do.

The challenge is trusting themselves enough to do it consistently, especially when conditions are unfamiliar or pressure levels rise.

That's where mindset becomes important.

Mindset coaching helps riders understand how confidence works, manage self-doubt, overcome unhelpful thinking patterns and make better use of the skills they already possess.

When rider training and mindset support work together, riders often find they learn more, enjoy more and gain more from the experience.

Why I Chose To Join DS Roadcraft For This Year's Tours

I've enjoyed some fantastic motorcycle adventures over the past few years.

I've holidayed abroad and I've completed solo motorcycle tours around the UK, but I've never combined the two.

That's one of the reasons I'm so excited to be joining DS Roadcraft Tours this year.

What particularly appealed to me was their approach.

The groups are deliberately kept small, which creates a very different experience from some larger tours. It means riders have more opportunity to benefit from personalised rider coaching and support throughout the trip.

As the Motorcycle Mindset Coach on tour, it also gives me the opportunity to really get to know the riders as individuals. Rather than offering generic advice, I'll be able to understand what each rider wants to achieve, identify any confidence challenges they may be facing and provide support that is tailored to their needs in real time.

For me, that's where the real magic happens.

Right there, in the moment, when a rider is facing a challenge, pushing beyond their comfort zone or achieving something they weren't sure they could do.

Combined with the expertise of the DS Roadcraft team, it creates a unique opportunity for riders to develop their skills, build their confidence and enjoy an unforgettable touring experience.

It's a win-win for everyone involved and I can't wait to be part of it.

What To Consider Before Booking A Tour

When researching a motorcycle tour, most people naturally look at:

  • The routes
  • The accommodation
  • The scenery
  • The food
  • The attractions

All of these things matter.

But there is another important question.

How will the experience help you develop as a rider?

The greatest benefit of a well-designed motorcycle tour isn't simply visiting new places.

It's returning home with greater confidence, improved skills and a broader understanding of what you're capable of.

The Difference Between A Tour And A Development Experience

DS Roadcraft Tours are about much more than covering miles.

They provide the opportunity to ride some of Europe's finest roads while benefiting from professional rider development and ongoing support.

You'll learn from experienced rider trainers.

You'll receive guidance throughout the trip.

And you'll have access to motorcycle mindset support before and during the tour to help you make the most of the experience.

For some riders, that support helps them tackle challenges they have been avoiding for years.

For others, it simply allows them to enjoy the experience more fully.

Either way, the benefits often extend far beyond the tour itself.

The Riders Who Benefit Most

These tours can be particularly valuable if:

  • You've never toured abroad before
  • You've recently passed your test
  • You're returning to riding after a break
  • You lack confidence in unfamiliar environments
  • You're worried about group riding
  • You tend to overthink mistakes
  • You want to challenge yourself safely
  • You want to continue developing as a rider

In fact, if you're reading this and wondering whether you're experienced enough, you're probably exactly the sort of rider who stands to gain the most.

More Than A Holiday

A motorcycle tour is undoubtedly a fantastic experience.

The roads, scenery, camaraderie and memories make it something many riders look back on for years.

But unlike many holidays, a well-designed motorcycle tour can continue to give back long after you've unpacked your luggage.

Every mile ridden helps develop your experience.

Every challenge overcome builds confidence.

Every piece of feedback helps refine your riding.

Every new situation expands what you believe you're capable of.

That's why many riders return home with far more than photographs and memories.

They return with improved skills, increased confidence and a greater sense of what they can achieve on a motorcycle.

In that sense, a motorcycle tour is not just an investment in a fantastic holiday.

It's an investment in your future as a rider.

You Don't Need To Be Fearless

One of the biggest misconceptions about motorcycle touring is that you need to be fearless.

You don't.

You don't need to be the fastest rider.

You don't need to be the most experienced rider.

You don't need to have everything figured out.

You simply need to be willing to take the next step.

Confidence isn't something you wait for.

It's something you build through experience, learning and support.

And sometimes that starts with booking the tour you've been talking yourself out of for years.

More Than A Tour

DS Roadcraft Tours believe rider development doesn't stop when the training day ends.

Every mile ridden, every challenge overcome and every new experience contributes to the rider you become.

By combining professional rider development with motorcycle mindset coaching, and Supporting Riders Together, our aim is simple:

To help you return home not only with fantastic memories, but as a more capable, confident and accomplished rider.
